Trustees of Children's Sailing Trust

Martin Barlow
Chair of Trustees

After gaining a degree in economics and an MBA, followed by a 15-year career in the financial markets in the City of London, Martin returned to the county of his birth in 2000 as managing director of the Budock Vean Hotel. A keen sailor (who has crossed the Atlantic twice) and gig rower, Martin was previously Mawnan School’s parent sailing coordinator, organising the school’s weekly sailing trips with CST.

Coralie Green
Vice Chair of Trustees

Elected vice chair in 2021, Coralie also serves on the management committee. Career includes time at Citizens Advice in Ely, Cambridgeshire as a Trustee and Chairman, and fundraising and event management at Ely Cathedral. She was an elected District Councillor in East Cambridgeshire 2015-2019. Moving to Cornwall in 2019, Coralie is also a Trustee of National Maritime Museum Cornwall, a Volunteer Visitor for Henry Smith Charity and a volunteer vaccinator for the Covid vaccination programme.

Linda Norfolk

Career as a Chartered Physiotherapist and a university lecturer specialising in sports medicine and disability sports and working with GB teams at Olympics and Paralympics. Business experience as MD of a national mobility company.

Tom Green

Formerly CEO of European agribusiness Spearhead International Ltd, Tom now holds a number of Non-Executive Directorships. He is a Trustee of LEAF – Linking Environment And Farming; Chairman of LEAF Marque ltd, and a former Trustee of the Ely Cathedral Trust.

Stephen Watson

Presently Chairman of Wealth Manager & Corporate Chartered Financial Adviser Watson French, my professional background and experience in financial management & investments commenced in 1979. During this time I have advised and developed strong relationships with many individuals and corporates and I continue to do so. Providing opportunities, development, support and enjoyment for vulnerable and disabled children is important to me. Accordingly I am delighted to be involved with Children’s Sailing Trust.

Joanna Wood

A Chartered HR Professional with 19 years’ experience working within private education settings and prior to that for a global project management/ engineering company based both in the UK and overseas, Joanna has worked within various industry sectors including telecommunications and power. Currently Head of Events for Truro School with responsibility for the management of events and utilisation of school premises outside of core school hours, her other notable experiences include business development responsibilities, qualified Six Sigma Yellow Belt, the successful ownership of a small catering business and an active volunteer at the Newquay Foodbank.

Randall Brook

Randall has had a career in education, with more than 25 years of experience as headteacher of a local school and is still involved in education as a member of a local Secondary Education College Trust. Randall was also the first School Volunteer Coordinator for the Children’s Sailing Trust.

Jilly Holt

After a 20+ year career in health services management and obtaining an MBA, Jilly started her own consultancy practice, supporting SMEs in identifying their goals, developing the skills of key people and strategies to achieve success. On the road to becoming fully retired, Jilly used these skills to volunteer, whether as a team leader at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, or supporting local businesses and charities in Cornwall.

James Staughton OBE DL

James joined St Austell Brewery, which was founded in 1851 by his great-great grandfather Walter Hicks, in January 1980. He retired after 20 years as Chief Executive in January 2020 following 40 years’ service, and is now Honorary President.

James is an active and influential member of the Cornish community both as a Deputy Lieutenant and someone with a particular interest in the wellbeing of the St Austell area, sustainable tourism and raising awareness for a litter-free county. 

He is a passionate advocate for the economic development and cultural recognition of Cornwall as well as a recognised champion for the County’s people through the Cornish Ambassador Scheme and as Chair of the Cornwall Place Board.

Outside the business James is a very keen and long–standing supporter of Chelsea from his upbringing in London. He used to play a lot of cricket but now spends more time on the water, playing the occasional round of golf and watching sport on tv.

James’ contribution to the Brewing industry and the community of Cornwall was recognised with the award of an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list in January 2020.
