Our Campaigns

Trevassack Lake

The Children’s Sailing Trust has taught over 5000 children to sail since its foundation in 1997. Children’s Sailing Trust lessons are provided at generously subsidised rates or free-of-charge, so this opportunity is available to all.

We began sessions for children with special educational needs and disabilities on the Helford River over ten years ago but tidal waters and lack of easy access to the foreshore mean that the river is beyond the reach of children and young people with limited mobility.

CST’s new accessible watersports centre at Trevassack Lake, which opens in 2021, will have a Learning Centre with adapted facilities, a flexible learning space and sensory room. Hoists, pontoons with ramps and adapted watercraft will be available at the lake which means we can provide inclusive activities and specialist classes to children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Phase Two

Families with a parent or child with disabilities have difficulty finding accessible accommodation with the right combination of facilities for their needs. We are raising funds to build 8 adapted holiday cottages at Trevassack Lake providing high-quality accommodation for much-needed family breaks.

So far, we have secured funding for 3 adapted lodges so that families from Cornwall and across the UK can enjoy an accessible activity holiday together. Our aim is to raise a further £1.5 million in order to complete the remaining 5 adapted holiday cottages planned for the site.

By supporting Trevassack Lake, you can help families affected by disability experience holidays, accommodation and activities that are designed for them. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated and will help make the Trevassack Lake vision a reality

Dedications at Trevassack Lake

The Children’s Sailing Trust is creating a donor wall at Trevassack Lake Learning Centre where donations supporting our project to create a unique environment for children with disabilities to learn watersports can be recognised. If you would like to make a gift or dedicate a donation in memory of someone special, please call us on T: 01326 702342 or donate online today.

Accommodation and activity bursaries

In the context of reduced public funding to support children and young people, organisations like the Children’s Sailing Trust are more dependent on the generosity and support of friends and donors than ever before.

Help us to create opportunities that benefit the children who need it most

The Children’s Sailing Trust would like to make bursaries available for families affected by disability who require financial assistance to be able to have a holiday at Trevassack Lake. Guests who are in need of financial assistance will be welcome to apply for a booking at any time of the year. Accommodation bursaries are discretionary and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Sailing Courses

Our sailing courses help students from age 8 upwards work towards Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Sailing Schemes.

All sessions are taught by qualified RYA Instructors, through an enjoyable mix of practical and theory sessions. Our focus is on creating a fun environment where all students can comfortably develop at their own pace, and from the very first sail, safety and enjoyment is at the forefront of what we do.

RYA certification is awarded upon successful completion of the syllabus, and while we cannot guarantee certification, our ambition is to get the best out of all our students during their time with us.
