Trevassack Lake: Safety Cover

THIS DOCUMENT IS IMPORTANT AND EXPLAINS HOW CHILDREN’S SAILING TRUST (CST) AT TREVASSACK LAKE OPERATE IN RELATION TO ON-WATER ACTIVITIES AND YOUR SAFETY.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT.

ALL USERS OF THE WATER MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY BOTH AFLOAT AND ASHORE. WE WILL USE OUR BEST ENDEAVOURS TO PROVIDE SAFETY COVER BUT THAT DOES NOT ALTER THE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY OF ANY USER. ACCEPTANCE OF THIS POLICY IS A CONDITION OF GOING AFLOAT.

SAFETY COVER

The Trust sets out to provide cover at three levels as follows:

1. When undertaking a CST watersport activity, all students will fall under the direct safety of the Activity Instructor(s) running the activity. All Activity Instructors are overseen by the Safety Officer.

2. When taking part in a swimming session, all swimmers will fall under the safety of the Lifeguards and/or Swim Safety Team, overseen by the Head Lifeguard or Safety Officer. Those taking part in lessons will be overseen by the Swim Coach.

3. When the water is open for general water users (to include those hiring CST equipment and those launching their own equipment, but not swimmers) the water will be checked at regular intervals with safety response as necessary.

INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITIES

As a water user of Trevassack Lake, you have a duty to both yourself and other water users as regards to safety. That duty includes acting responsibly whilst on the premises (and taking responsibility for the behaviour and safety of U18s under your supervision). You can improve your/their safety by:

• Staying where you can be easily observed

• Following directions on the sailing areas given on the Daily Information Board

• Staying away from the marked hazard areas and launching/landing only in the designated areas

• Not going out in conditions or on kit beyond your competence

• Taking and following advice from the Safety Officer and/or CST Activity Team

• Following the Trust’s ‘Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy’ and ‘CST Code of Conduct’ (all displayed in the reception area, on our website policy page and available on request).

Your duty to other water users includes:

• Providing help or seeking help for anyone you see requiring it on the water (without putting yourself in danger).

• Alerting the Safety Officer to any situation that you observe that may need attention.
