Our new watersports website – CST Experiences

We’ve made a brand new website so you can quickly and easily find the watersports activities and events right for you, at both our Helford River and Trevassack Lake locations. That means this website, childrenssailingtrust.org.uk, can concentrate on the impact of our charity work, supported by the commercial activities of Trevassack Holidays and now, CST Experiences.

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INTRODUCING CST EXPERIENCES – BROUGHT TO YOU BY CHILDREN’s SAILING TRUST

New website launch

Children’s Sailing Trust has launched a new website for the public to quickly and easily book watersports activities, sailing courses, birthday parties and events. After a delayed opening to their new watersports centre in October 2021, the former quarry at Trevassack Lake is now home to CST headquarters, a selection of purpose-built, fully accessible holiday homes (Trevassack Holidays) and now, CST Experiences.

CST Experiences brings watersports, activities and events on the Helford River and Trevassack Lake to the general public, with money raised through bookings helping to support the work the Trust does in providing sailing and watersports opportunities to all, whatever their financial situation or their physical or mental ability.

Katie Chown is the new Marketing Manager for Children’s Sailing Trust, Trevassack Holidays and CST Experiences and was tasked with creating the new website from scratch;

Background

2022 marks the 25th year of providing local children with sailing opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to take part in. Through spending time out on the water with their peers, young people learn skills that help them in all aspects of life; confidence, competence, resilience and critical thinking. Whether or not they choose to continue on towards further qualifications, each child comes away with a sense of pride and achievement.

The charity relies heavily on grants and donations in order to cover running costs of operating subsidised Helford River sailing courses as well as continue providing these amazing experiences for young people for another 25 years. Therefore, the development of Trevassack Lake is a forward-thinking strategy to ensure financial stability for the Trust while benefitting the local community.

All ages and abilities are welcome at Trevassack, with the whole site being developed to be as inclusive and accessible as possible, with hoists and adapted craft allowing our experienced staff to help people with disabilities to get out on the water. The location is unique and jaw-dropping – first time visitors always have the same, amazed reaction when they round the corner from the car park and the ex-quarry opens up before them. It’s still a beautifully natural location, with an array of bird life swooping the 10-acres of freshwater – plus it’s a chemical-free site, so no noisy engines or smelly petrol to disturb the environment with everything run on solar, underwater-source heat pumps or electric.

CST Experiences is home to bookable courses for sailing and powerboat lessons plus instructor training at the CST’s Helford River locations as well as the watersports activities and events at the lake, where you can experience paddleboarding and kayaking to lake swimming, self-launch your own craft, or hire ours. Plus there are wetsuits, buoyancy aids and hot showers all available (with Changing Places facilities if required) with the option of private lessons with skilled staff. But if you don’t fancy getting wet, there’s always the lakeside cafe with large seated deck letting you survey the action from the sidelines.

Trevassack should be top of the list for group training sessions – think coached swim sessions, general fitness or multi- activity group fun. Corporate Days with team building activities – in or out of the water – are welcomed in the large, dual aspect function room, with catering options from the cafe. Companies from further afield have the option of on site accommodation, too! It’s the perfect place for a celebration, so take a look at the CSTX website for birthday party options, venue hire or even Wedding Day packages where the sunsets over the lake for the picture-perfect end to your special day.

"My daughter's confidence has grown in a very unexpected way. She has been eager to try something new, work with others and direct others without shying away. She has also relished the opportunity to sail independently and has listened attentively and can relay what she has learnt in great detail. I hadn't anticipated just how much she would enjoy it and how proud she would feel of herself."

"My new class are complicated - 87% of the class have self-esteem issues and have difficulty with resilience, mental wellbeing. They all cannot wait for our weekly sessions, it is truly a highlight of the week. They talk about it all the time. When there, most of the children have huge big beaming smiles, they usually listen and for a short time they are 'care free' from their worries. They are able to confidently, with the support of staff, step out of their comfort zone and realise that they can do something new. The sense of achievement is enormous, particularly for those who struggle academically. Children we see in the classroom struggle to work together are able to communicate more effectively with their peers and gain some more self worth."

CST Experiences is now live with all the information you need about visiting Trevassack Lake and finding out more about Helford River sailing courses for yourself or your little ones. With tide times and weather information, venue hire and cafe details, you can even check if the water temperature is holding at the record 22 degrees!
