Children’s Sailing Trust is a charity based in Cornwall that offers access to sailing and watersports to children as well as young people with additional needs. We are passionate about using these activities as a tool to develop confidence, competence and resilience, enabling participants to reach their full potential in life. One of our key beliefs is that all children and young people should have the same opportunity to learn sailing and watersports, irrespective of financial challenges, disabilities or special educational needs.
2022 sees the 25th year of our charity working on the Helford River taking local children, young people and adults sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding through our term-time schools’ programme. The organisation also offers commercial activity after school, weekends and during the holidays to generate funds that feed back into the sustainable running of the Charity. Children’s Sailing Trust is a growing organisation and has recently opened its second location – an accessible watersports centre and fully accessible holiday accommodation at Trevassack Lake, a converted freshwater serpentine quarry on the Lizard peninsula. Complementing our activities on the Helford River, Trevassack Lake enables us to offer more to a wider range of participants with specialist equipment that allows watersports opportunities for all.
Children’s Sailing Trust has just completed a major capital development and is in a new phase of growth and opportunity.
Role Overview
To lead and manage a range of watersports and activities, delivered to a high standard of safety, enjoyment, inclusion and enrichment that generates sustainable profits for the charity.

Experience & Qualifications:
Essential:
Minimum of two years’ experience of activities management and team leadership
Experience in coaching children and adults including those with additional needs.
Desirable:
RYA Senior Sailing Instructor
RYA Powerboat Instructor
British Canoeing Instructor/BCAB Paddlesports Instructor
2 day Outdoor First Aid
Coastal Teaching qualification
Beach Lifeguard qualification

Children’s Sailing Trust is committed to creating a safe environment for all our participants, staff and volunteers. We have a robust safeguarding policy, and staff at all levels will have an annual DBS check completed.

Seasonal roles from March/April to early November
Rates of pay are SI £21K -£22K (FTE) and DI £19-£20K (FTE) dependant on experience and qualifications.
Working up to 5 days in 7 (to include weekends, evenings and bank holidays when required)

About the Roles
Senior Instructor and Dinghy Instructor
Working under the direction of the Activities Manager, Senior Instructors and Dinghy Instructors are responsible for the delivery of high quality water sports sessions to a wide variety of groups and individuals.
SIs oversee DIs and volunteers and may take day to day responsibility for management of sessions and equipment.
A full induction, familiarisation and training package will be offered.
Qualifications and experience
We are looking for experienced RYA qualified Senior Instructors and Dinghy Instructors who ideally will have worked in similar roles successfully delivering a Youth Sailing Scheme for at least a year.

Lead Instructor (Helford Area)
Fixed Term, Full Time: March to early November 2023
Potential for role to become permanent dependent on nature of season
Salary: £25,500 FTE (based upon 37.5hrs per week)
About the Role
The Lead Instructor will assist the Activities Manager with the safe delivery of CST’s watersports programme across all operating sites in the Helford area. They will ensure that participants have an enjoyable, safe, positive and ultimately empowering and enriching experience with CST. This will include taking the active operational lead for all water activities for either the Helford River or Trevassack Lake location.
Work includes evenings and weekends and you will be expected to work up to 5 days out of 7 each week.

Deliver High Quality Watersports, including:
- Deliver high quality watersports sessions to a variety of groups and individuals.
- Ensure that all kit and equipment is checked and maintained to appropriate standards.
- Operate all activities following the guidelines of CST’s operating procedure, and all other relevant CST policies.
- To act in a professional manner always ensuring that clients have a safe and enjoyable experience at CST.
- To maintain and excel the standards set by the National Governing Body associated with the sport(s) delivered.
- Work as part of a team to provide an enjoyable and safe training experience for clients of all ages and abilities.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- RYA Senior Instructor
- 2+ years as an active SI
- Delivery of RYA Youth Schemes
- Child protection / safeguarding
- Health and safety
- Risk assessments
- Ability to work on own initiative, without supervision
- Excellent communication skills, ability to build rapport with children, young people and their families
- Energetic, positive attitude
- Ability to motivate and work in a team
- Strong client focus, motivated to deliver high quality experience

- Full UK driving licence
