Our charity is fortunate to have a great relationship with local and worldwide renowned, superyacht company, Pendennis. Based in Falmouth, they are one of our first ports of call when we’re in need!
And over the winter we were in dire need of some help with maintenance – up stepped a team of volunteers!
As they have done previously, Pendennis organised a group of apprentices to have a whole week’s worth of helping out our charity, with a well-organised team of young men eager to get the job done to a high standard. The main job they were tasked with at our Trevassack Lake HQ was to make a second-hand shipping container suitable for dry storage – storage space is at a premium here, with dry, warm enclosed spaces required for holiday property linen, accessibility equipment, catering apparel and of course all the watersports kit. The team were more than happy to fill the holes, baton, insulate and line the accessible storage shipping container, but not only that – a side team set about installing a partition wall with a door in the outside Changing Place, to ensure adequate privacy and create a utility room.

The offer of skilled man power was incredibly welcome – we can’t thank them enough, but with the labour covered, we had to find a way to budget the required materials. Timber, in particular, has become so expensive but with the core of our funding restricted to the charitable sailing program, we need to find generous donors to help us out with most other things.
To that end, we approached local businesses who had expressed an interest in our charitable work, or gone so far as to help us in previous years and we were not disappointed.
A huge shout out of eternal gratitude goes to:

Jewson Helston
who kindly donated a third of the required materials!
Not only that, the remainder they let us have for cost price and our thanks also go to our generous ex-trustee, Jonathan Thornton who covered that purchase for us.
Howdens Helston
who donated a Fire Door for the Changing Place partition wall and also helped with damaged cupboard doors in one of our accommodation cabins.
At the same time (because we like to be busy here!) Bradfords Helston donated 24 paving slabs and 8 bags of Blue Circle Slablayer for the Utility-shed base being built for the new outdoor learning space over the other side of the lake – exciting!

We have a strong and resourceful, but small staff team here at CST so we’re always grateful to the local community who choose to support us, either through donations of money, materials or time – we wouldn’t be able to achieve all we have so far without you!
As a small thank you, we always ensure our on site helpers have access to our staff tea and coffee facilities, but with a discount in our lovely lakeside cafe should they want to treat themselves. Then, at the end of a productive week, everyone gets to go on (or in!) the water, with a fun splash-around using our paddleboards and kayaks.
If your team or company would like to get involved in helping a local good cause, we’d be very happy to hear from you – Get In Touch to discuss volunteering and/or donations such as Charity of the Year or fundraising events.
Thank you for your support – and please support our friends and other local businesses, too.
