How to get involved

Volunteering with CST

We are very happy to offer free training and qualification opportunities to regular volunteers. Click an area of interest below to find out more.

Sailing & Watersports

With lots of new activities and opportunities at Trevassack lake and on the Helford River, we are looking for any volunteers with experience teaching watersports including – sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, raft building and swimming. If you don’t have any formal qualifications, we can offer training and assessments to get you qualified.

Trevassack Lake

We are looking for enthusiastic people, preferably with experience of sailing, paddlesport and/or Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) to come and help enable children and young adults with additional needs to get afloat.

Helford River

Powerboat drivers or people with sailing experience are always welcome to help us manage groups of children in experiencing life-changing opportunities to build skills to put them on a positive pathway in life.

Individual volunteering

The ongoing maintenance of the site and the kit is paramount for a positive experience of all our users, from gardening to repairs to carpentry projects. If you have an interest or specialist skill, please let us know as we are always looking for practical problem-solving people to help us!

This is ideally for people who want a regular role – same day, same time each week (or fortnightly, or seasonally). We’re looking for consistency rather than huge time commitments.
Priority volunteer needs:
  • Trade skills: Carpenters, decorators, electricians, plumbers, landscapers – we always have maintenance and site improvement projects
  • RYA qualifications: Instructors, powerboat drivers, or anyone with sailing/watersports credentials who can support sessions on the water
  • SEND experience: Teaching assistants, support workers, or anyone with experience working with children and young people with additional needs
We also need general site support, event prep, equipment help and shore-based assistance.

Corporate Volunteering Days

Bring your team for a half-day or full-day session tailored to your group. We can accommodate 8–50 people.
What your team might work on:
  • Site and grounds maintenance
  • Painting, decorating and repairs to holiday accommodation
  • Environmental work and lakeside upkeep
  • Preparing spaces used for community and SEND activities
Corporate days are fully supervised, risk-assessed, and planned in advance with clear outcomes. They can stand alone as CSR activities or be combined with meetings, catering, or watersports sessions as part of a wider away day.
