HIGH SHERIFF OF CORNWALL

Grand Prize Draw

Our Grand Prize Draw will be held at National Maritime Museum Cornwall on Thursday 21st March 2024 with a limited number of 400 exclusive tickets to win this incredible prize:

The Grand Prize

A magnificent, money-can’t-buy experience aboard the privately-owned Oyster 625, Peregrine Falcon (pictured), thanks to the incredible generosity of Peter and Deborah Blackmore.

The boat owners have offered two options to the Grand Prize winner, so they can choose whether they want to be at the centre of the action in the fun knock outs of this prestigious sailing competition in Barcelona, or relax along the coast of Palma de Mallorca for a week’s sailing.

The Peregrine Falcon, Oyster 625

Designed as a live-aboard cruising yacht, for most sailors, this will be their ultimate boat where you can enjoy the full yachting experience with minimum crew. This 63.5ft spacious and light beauty berths six and perfectly pairs safety and performance with comfort and modern conveniences.

Option 1) 37th America's Cup

The Peregrine Falcon will be moored in the marina of the America’s Cup village – nearer the outside of the harbour where the Cup competitors boats would be, but still close to all the shore based action, nicely positioned so you can get a water taxi to the village itself.

With flexibility around September dates, you get a guarantee to see the UK team and Sir Ben Ainslie in action, plus there are more races and teams to watch during the knock out stages of the Louis Vuitton Cup. All costs on the boat are included but the winners should pay for tickets to the village and any other Cup-related expenses (plus on shore expenses).

The boat could be used simply as a hotel, and occupants watch from the shore base or from the watching platforms that go out each day, or from the boat itself going out, but bear in mind that the boat cannot anchor and would be on the perimeter of the action alongside lots of other craft (also the races last a relatively brief time).

Or choose:

Option 2) Palma Coast

If you love sailing, you might prefer to opt for up to six days around Palma de Mallorca, preferable to the Barcelona coastline.

This is a wonderful opportunity to explore a stunning coastal area, relaxing with skippered sailing, visiting the shore and exploring.

All expenses are of course included whilst on the boat, anything on land is at cost.

Dates to be agreed – there is lots of flexibility over the summer 2024, to be agreed with the owners.

2nd prize

Dine on the Quarterdeck Seafood Restaurant & luxuriate with an overnight stay at The Nare Hotel, with thanks to the High Sheriff, Toby Ashworth (restrictions apply).

A message from the High Sheriff of Cornwall as to why he is supporting Childrens’ Sailing Trust;

“I was very lucky to have been brought up in Cornwall and to have been taught to sail by my father.  I was even luckier to have access to a Mirror dinghy off Restronguet on the Carrick Roads, and the chance to sneak off one day by myself for my first solo sail. It was my life changing moment. I was only seven at the time and I don’t think my grandmother quite noticed I was missing.  The sense of achievement circumnavigating Carick Carlys Rock that day I will never forget, and so to this day I still relish sailing solo.

From then on I have always loved sailing. The challenges, the achievements, and the opportunities are endless. It has allowed me to sail all over the world.  I sailed in team matches at school. I sailed offshore races. I spent some time in the Royal Navy. My life was at sea, but it all started here in Cornwall. Of course, I wasn’t the first Cornishman and, with the good work of the Childrens’ Sailing Trust continuing, I know I won’t be the last. I really want all children in Cornwall to have that chance to try sailing and watersports and to reach their full potential on the high seas of life.

Please do give to those that are not so fortunate as I was the opportunity to learn this lifelong skill….. just think how much you can do to help children form lifelong skills with a just little help from the start.

Please do support the Children’s Sailing Trust.”
